چکیده

Asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) is the existence of bacteria in a patient's properly gathered urine who has no obvious symptoms urinary tract infection, which common females, with prevalence rate 2-11%, ASB during pregnancy influenced by range factors including; mechanical compression, changes immune and renal systems, if untreated, it can lead to cystitis pyelonephritis. Our aim evaluate sensitivity specificity screening tests compared culture method for detection pregnancy, identify most etiologic agents pregnant women. An analytical cross- sectional study was carried out on 110 women, selected using nonprobability sampling methods their age between 18-45year- old signs infections (UTIs). Clean-catch Midstream specimen from each participant collected submitted routine analysis dipstick detect leukocyte esterase, nitrite reductase microscopic examination pyuria (pus cells), as well culture, biochemical test. About 14.5% women were positive ASB, prevalent bacterium Escherichia coli (37.5%) followed Klebsiella pneumoniae (18.7%). There significant association age, parity, gestation, recurrent infections, Diabetes mellitus, hypertension ASB. For tests; test more specific (98.9%) than esterase pus cells, other hand, cell sensitive (81.2%) The relatively high, one used revealed both high specificity. So, remains gold standard

[Asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy].

Screening for asymptomatic bacteriuria is a standard of obstetrical care and is included in most antenatal guidelines. There is good evidence that treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria will decrease the incidence of pyelonephritis. All pregnant women should be screened for asymptomatic bacteriuria, and there are no new data that would indicate otherwise. Antibiotic treatment of asymptomatic bac...

Asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy.

Asymptomatic bacteriuria occurs in 4 to 7 percent of pregnancies and is associated with the development of acute pyelonephritis, preterm labor and low-birth-weight infants. Treatment of bacteriuria prevents up to 80 percent of cases of pyelonephritis and reduces the risk of preterm delivery. All women should be screened for bacteriuria by a urine culture at the first prenatal visit. Women with ...

Costs and effects of screening and treating low risk women with a singleton pregnancy for asymptomatic bacteriuria, the ASB study

BACKGROUND The prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) in pregnancy is 2-10% and is associated with both maternal and neonatal adverse outcomes as pyelonephritis and preterm delivery. Antibiotic treatment is reported to decrease these adverse outcomes although the existing evidence is of poor quality. METHODS/DESIGN We plan a combined screen and treat study in women with a singleton preg...
